I don't know where you got the feeling that I blindly accept anything. I happen to agree with most of what they are doing. With my eyes open. Not blindly. And to change the things I don't agree with we need to prove we are responsible and reasonable. Not a bunch of cowboys or pirates that will do as we please because we think we are smarter or know better or just because we want to.
And re: commercial - if the FAA can demonstrate - with independent evidence - that commercial flights are inherently unsafe, ill accept it. Until then look at other authorities who know that safety is not linked to whether a flight is commercial or not. Eg: UK's FAA, Switzerland's FOCA.

If you want to make money doing this you have a higher responsibility. If you want to do a little carpentry work at your house, for the most part you can, but if you want to make money doing the same thing at your neighbors, you need a license and a permit. If you want to screw your house up OK but if your neighbor is paying you there is a higher standard. Our government protects us from substandard workers. It is called licensing. When your 350 gm quad 'flies away' and hits someone's child or pet tell me there are no safety issues.

They do that because of people who think they can skirt the rules with technicalities like 'I don't get paid' they just donate. You seem to think the FAA is in charge of transportation. They are charged with safety in the NAS National Air Space.

For example I can fly a 350 gram quad at tree top level or lower and film real estate for money all day long. How is this even remotely the concern of a government entity in charge of "transportation? I can't even think of a parable for this over reach.hmmm.... The fcc examining textbooks for correct spelling might be an amply absurd scenario.

Based on their recommendations for hobbyists could be put in place the small lightweight drones like the Phantom for instance. Even on an interim basis. They can't see the forest for the trees. Yes will all know that the larger implications of UAS is a huge game changer. But this can easily be taken step by step without delays.
They are too bust play cop on the beat to publish some simple regulations to let small entrepreneurs begin to develop the business models needed for commercialization. They should be helping small business not hindering.
