FrankenCopter build coming soon! 1 of 1 ;)

Have just finished ordering all the parts I need to build an aerial platform capable of carrying a Nikon D5100 SLR camera.

I have spec'ed up the power for some future heavy lifting projects.

  • Gareth, I choosed motors and controllers for my copter under the influence of your posts. My copter is not ready, and now I am collecting information that can be helpful. Would you be kind to give me an advice or two on G10 motors and Turnigy dlux escs?
  • CarbonCore,

Many thanks. I have been going crazy trying to locate where to find items...... really great of u to give the link.... thanks again

  • There are Pneumatic shocks available on CarbonCore (Within the MegaRadius Listing)

  • Thanks for sorting out one bug for me,,,, so no dampers and no pneumatic shock absorbers. One less item to hunt for on the net..... phew....

  • CarbonCore,

I have to still figure out what ratio of gearing should it be, the choice is from 2:1 to 13:1

  • CarbonCore,

many thanks. Pl just confirm that i am thinking correctly. I was planning to order this from servocity.com  for camera tilt, hope i am on the right track. and with a correctly set up gyro, And no need for damper/pneumatic gadgets. ???? Its just $503692338490?profile=original

  • Hello,

No, quite the opposite. Dampers are not needed. I have taken into account the weights of the cameras and speed and torque of the servos and drive system to get smooth motion. If your gyro gain is too high, the servos will over-compensate and move the camera too much.

All modern gyros (for RC helicoptes anyway) are to be used with Digital Servos.
Analogue servos cannot hold their position in the way that digital servos do as digital amplifiers drive the servo to match the pot position, unlike analogues that just apply a constant voltage to the motor to match the position. Digital's will change the timing to the coreless motor to make sure the servo gets there!

Nothing can compensate for correct gyro setup.

Be aware that multicopter flight control boards seem to have two types of gyros as well:

One has thermal drift and the other that is more like a Helicopter Heading Hold Gyro, is more expensive, but does not drift.

CarbonCore is very low on stock until the workshop has sorted their machine problem and give me a bell to go and collect the parts for January.

More X4's and Octos will not be back in stock until February now due the volume of (unofficial) pre-orders taken for Octos and MegaRadius Mounts.

There will be Y6 and Hexa 950's and MiniRadius Mounts left in stock this month once the carbon is ready for collection.

    Many Thanks.

  • CarbonCore, would that mean that with digital servos it is mandatory to use dampers, and with analogue servos dampers really not required. So in case they are required could u be kind to post a link from where i can order. would be grateful.

  • Hi Gareth.

I'm working out today what I need to have made for February.

If the servos are too fast, turn the gyro gain down a little. Normalyl with gyros the compensation rate will also be reduced by reducing the channel ATV, although it's best to have the Tx ATV or end-points as high as possible and use the gyro setings to set the servo endpoints and compensation rates. Also use a little EXPO on your Tx.

  • @Carboncore: Like i said, I put your mounts on par, if not a little better & much cooler looking than photohigher.

My next mount will be the mega radius! Looking forward to the PAN upgrade!

Using a pneumatic shock on the camera mount would work provided your servos did try too fast to change the pitch/roll. Just as light dampeners to give a more fluid movement.

But hey! You're the mount expert, i will defer to your superior knowledge :)
