G0 GPS Receiver Introduction

Hi Everyone,

I made a new video describing the details of the G0 Paparazzi UAV GPS receiver module. In the video I go through and describe the several design decisions we made to ensure high Signal to Noise Ratio, good multi path GPS signal rejection and overall reliability of the GPS for use in airborne robotics applications.

I hope this video is helpful. If you think so too please let me know in the YouTube comments. If you enjoyed the video make sure to like it on YouTube and subscribe to the channel.

Check out the G0 paparazzi wiki page for more information about the GPS.

G0 is now available for purchase in the 1BitSquared store together with the Elle0 autopilot. It is available in both of our stores; the US Store and the German Store. So if you live in the European union, you can now buy Elle for your next UAV project without having to worry about customs and shipping time. :)

Cheers, and successful flights,
Esden and the 1BitSquared team

  • @earthpatrol Thank you! I am glad you like them, and they are an improvement over the GPS's you had before. :)

  • Nice video. Really happy with all of my G0 GPS receivers. Noticeable performance and reliability with respect to keeping a strong GPS signal during autonomous flights. The design and build quality of the boards are top-notch. Thanks Piotr!

  • yes but not all common users can "compile"!it could be very hard for a beginner  to use this plateform.

i am pretty sure it s good one but i just want to say it s far to be easiest plateform out of there.

  • @titieuf007 Please stop spreading false information. There is an android APK: http://wiki.paparazziuav.org/wiki/PPRZonDroid and Paparazzi can be compiled on Windows, it is just not an officially supported platform because the user base and developer community does not see good enough reason for maintaining that platform, and there is not that much demand for it. The userbase is savvy enough to use Linux.

  • no windows software....or android apk..it s not for everybody if we need to use linux or virtual machine!!

  • @fnoop We left out the magnetometer out of G0 for several reasons. The main reason is to remove complexity from the RF design of the GPS. Adding more parts and additional connectors would add more "punched holes" in the ground planes. We actually had very good results with the magnetometer being on the autopilot. If you pay attention and do good engineering in your UAV airframe, having the magnetometer in the autopilot is usually not a problem. Additionally by not having the magnetometer on board we were able to keep the price lower. Still you can connect an external magnetometer to the auxiliary I2C interface of Elle0 autopilot if you need to.

@leanardhall & @Tony_K Thank you both! I really appreciate your feedback. :) The design is the result of our own experiences with industry standard products that we were dissatisfied with.

  • EXCELLENT work !! RF/EMI Shielding this is a first i see and i too have an RF background so important for drone application where there is so much RF technologies all at once.

  • Developer

Very nice job. Antenna design and RF systems is what I do for a living and it is great to see someone do a good job on a GPS module!!!

    Well done!

  • Interesting you don't put the magnetometer on board, do you normally have this as a separate component and mount it to a different position?

  • @titieuf007 This all will happen when the time is right. :)
