I know we've all been a bit Kickstartered-out of late, but this latest one seems more interesting than most since it's designed to be an easy programming environment. It uses the Intel Edison module and the PX4 flight code, which is a good choice for power and ease of use:
Assemble Eedu: Eedu is a drone that can be quickly assembled using the included tools. It is compatible with Arduino shields and other open source hardware.
Enter Forge: Once put together, Eedu is ready to be synced to Forge, the software part of the kit. Forge is a Robotics Development Environment (RDE) that runs on your web browser in the cloud. It brings together the best of ground control, community interaction, and code development. It will even teach you how to code! It is the world’s first complete community integrated development environment for drone applications. Best of all, it’s all open source, so anyone can contribute.
Fly your app: Once your app is built, it will compile on Eedu, and you are ready to try out your very own “homebrew!”

Hey All, James from Skyworks here, due to your requests we have added the LUCI board as its very own reward. Thank you for your support and input.
That would be great!
That does look impressive. What voltage battery is is designed for?
Great idea, especially the use of frequency/tone as a kind of human-ready API for programming. My only criticism is the price. To back this and receive or donate a kit costs about $500? Is that right? That could put it out of reach of ordinary budgets. Otherwise, +1.
That sounds more reasonable, and I've actually worked on something like that myself. It would be nice to have more of that information on the project page.
Oh c'mon Bill, give them some slack! :)
Adults and kids having fun, contributing to and pitching what looks like a great project ...
@Evan How can you have a quadcopter without sensors? They must at least have a basic IMU on board. If not, I'm missing the point. I already have an Edison with an Arduino breakout board that I can bolt to one of my many quadcopter frames.
0:47 "Forge is the first community driven drone development platform" - What ever happen to advertising standards and even just some integrity? Come on! really!
1:12 - "we have discovered that hands on learning" oh FFS
Why are these scripts for the infomercials written as though they are the first to discover, when really they are not. what really happens is that the focus drains away from what they are offering, which is a reasonably priced, easily programmable community driven educational drone experiment platform, to some god-like proposition. You can forgive the kid at 2:43 saying "probably the most versatile drone on the market" but the adults need to really think outside to cookie cutter advertising box.
If I here that jangling happy go lucky music any more, i'm sure to go postal. ;-)
That said, I'd probably consider backing, but they don't ship to Canada or the ROTW
They don't even mention what the hardware is. It uses an Edison, but what sensors does it have? What expansion ports are available? What does "extraordinarily customizable mean? How is it different from e.g. the navio+?
"
Indeed!
"One drone can’t do everything, you’ve got to make sure that it can do the specific problem. And with a drone like this, where it’s extraordinarily customizable, then that would make it probably the most versatile drone on the market" ...
Wow !!!
