For DIYDrones, By DIYDrones
Since we got into the Made-For-iPod program we've been kicking around the idea of making a drone-compatible device.  When Claudio Natoli posted his proof-of-concept iOS app, the project moved into high gear.

Check out Claudio's original post here:

With the jump start on the software we were able to focus on hardware and mechanical design, allowing us to go from concept to Crowdfunding prototype in two and a half months.

Open Source Software
In the spirit of the DIYDrones community, we are making the iOS software open-source.  You can find the source code for the app here http://github.com/cnatoli/iGCS  Feel free to send us a pull request!

Other upcoming events we will be attending:
March 23-24th -- Innov8tive Designs First Annual Multirotor Challenge

  • Excellent idea! Just need one for windows phone 8! Maybe I will get for my ipad, but it would be nice for my cell phone!

  • Does this fit on all models of the ipad? I'm still rocking an iPad version 1 and it would be cool to have an extra ground station!

Also, I would like to use the ipad ground station along side my laptop doing more intensive data logging. If both groundstations can be connected at the same time, that would be awesome!

  • Can you show how it will attach to an iPhone?

  • Andrew thanks for the comment on my page!  I'd be more then happy to help gather people in our area (Minneapolis, MN) to demo and help assist you folks on your great product!  Let me know what I can do on my end of things to help you guys out and I'll do my best.

  • Thanks for your support and feedback everyone!  We are looking forward to using one of our beta radios to program our flight path at AVC...

Also I wanted to apologize for the confusion regarding shipping prices etc.  We've been working with Indiegogo and are back to having just a single perk for buying a radio.  (No more "Non-US Fighting Walrus Radio")  Our plan is to send our funders a survey when the unit are ready (September) asking which frequency they want (915 or 433).

  • good*

  • Brilliant Bryan! Goos to see it up and going now! Pretty sexy quadcopter you're flying there ;)

  • 3D Robotics

I've backed it. Great job today at Engadget Expand, guys!

  • The International shipping at $50 was a mistake, pulling a backed perk level isn't possible so we added a new reward level at the same $99 with $18 for international shipping.  The reward level is called: "Non-US Fighting Walrus Radio".  We have refunded all our international backers who paid the $50 the difference.

Thanks for the feedback and keep it coming, we will try to be as responsive as possible.

  • Claudio,

Big +1, love your sentiment. I'll be budgeting $99 into my robot fund for this.
