We know you love DIYDrones... so here is the Valentine's gift from the Dev Team! Yeah, we love you back. LOL =)
Anyway, in fact the title of this post could also be "ArduCAM OSD Project meets Michael Oborne"!!!
This tool makes setting up the awesome MinimOSD board super easy!
You can also buy from your local distributor, like JDrones.
Now you can:
- enable and disable panels;
- positioning panels by drag or numeric input;
- save and load layouts from file;
- save and load layouts from board's EEPROM;
- test video mode switching with adaptive layout;
- update firmware;
- update character set;
- customize background picture;
- set grid on/off;
- test the layout with telemetry logs from Mission Planner;
If you want to know more about each feature, check this wiki page.
To upgrade your MinimOSD board just went to our download area and grab the "OSD Config" and "MinimOSD 1.9 Pack".
An update pack contains two files: the Firmware (.hex) and the CharSet (.mcm).
Pay attention to the right update order. The tutorials are linked below:
- "Update Firmware" (it adds support to upload the character set);
- "Update Charset".
I'm super happy with the progress of ArduCAM project.
Now with Michael aboard... the sky is the limit just the start!
Enjoy your new toy! ;) There is much more coming out.
Note: The battery remaining icon was temporarily disabled due it's a work in progress on APM code.

One more question now that my shiny new cable has come in: how is the FTDI cable to be connected to the MinimOSD board? Was that written up somewhere in the FAQ and I missed it?
@George, is better to use an external uBEC. What camera are you planing to use?
This is really a nice OSD, I have used an EagleTree Pro & Remzibi for 2 yrs now, yours is next on my list (no funds right now) I will need 2, For TM stream, I tap into port 0 for xBee, OSD on port 3 both have two way comm, works well for me. I monitor various data fields on the screen while troubleshooting issues. Helps a lot. You have a winner!
Thanks for your advice.
Me and sandro where talk9ing about including a sample tlog file for testing. but like andrew said, there are lots on this forum.
@Eagle - The send Tlog function will replay a real transmission log so you can see your OSD actually respond to real data. This allows you to check how the layout would look during flight. Without that, at the moment the OSD shows a static screen 'Waiting for heartbeat..'. In otherwords, the config program 'fakes' being a working APM.
You can just grab any old Tlog - people post them here on the forum.
Sandro/Michael, love the config software, very easy to use :o)
I'm pretty sure you've already considered this but, could you add a way to edit the panels as well?
For example, change the "Heart Beat" panel to just display the flashing dot.
Or reduce the decimal places in the Lat Lon panel.
Also a link to the Charwizard app would be nice...
@Eagle what vehicle are you using with the your schema please?
Received the OSD and got it set-up in minutes. Super easy, super fast, super light, well done!
@Grips: Looking forward to watch it!
Even better if you add some flight video showing the result in flight! =)
