Nanobeams

3689624223?profile=originalI laughed when I first saw these. Here is a picture of several pieces in a tictac box.  But on second thought they probably have a lot of uses and relevancy here on DIYdrones. There is a Kickstarter going on now. Enjoy.

  • Nanobeams are 5 mm x 5 mm. MicroRax and Maker Beam are 10 mm x 10 mm. The original T slot extrusions are 20 mm and up.

  • doesn't Spark-fun have these listed under microrax ???

  • Yea you could use bar stock to do the same thing but that will most likely involve drilling. And what happens if you need something a wee bit bigger? gotta drill more holes or widen existing ones. A payload bay comes to mind as a good use for these rails. quick, reusable, infinitely adjustable. Sure they wouldn't be good for every application, but where you are constantly fiddling with something its great

  • Acorn - stability under hot conditions and more importantly, precision.  I use OpenBeam, and would not use it if it was extruded plastic.  It would be nowhere near as good.  The major advantage over stock materials is that things come together very quickly using the kits - it just works first time, every time.

  • Why not extruded plastic?

  • ^^ Meh, nothing you can't do with some aluminum or steel stock. . .

  • Very cool. I can think of lots of uses for this!!

  • Looks a lot like Fischertechnik.

  • You could make a nice micro CNC router with those lol.
