  • This is a bit pricey compared to other variants, but it does a very good job. I've installed it on my Quanum Nova and getting 15 to 19 satellites with around 1.0 HDOP. Even inside the house it gets around 8 to 10 satellites. So, no more GPS glitches for me.
  • Manuel, I own dual band GPS/GLONASS units (one with 5983 MAG and the one with 5883) and the Max M8Q, since @ my place in Central Europe only GLONASS and GPS are currently available .

Btw. Arducopter doesn´t know anything about the SATs its working with. If your GNSS unit would be capable to "mux"   position data out of 10 different GNSS Satellites systems, it would work with that as well...so it will get along with tri band units as well.

All of us are waiting for a worldwide BeiDou coverage and coming up Galileo system, but I won´t bet on this before 2020 ;-) At that time we´ll be probably talking of quad band systems with NEO 12 .

Meanwhile I really enjoy the extra GLONASS, lowering my HDOP, allowing flights at partly "shaded" places.Won´t go for less anymore.

  • @gervais, you bought the one with tri-band antenna or just dual band ?

Also , does arducopter 3.2rc support the tri-band gps ?

  • And the reception quality is great as well, here at my 650mm carbon quad

a7174632-161-b%20600_5883.jpgAlternatively , there is a housing for it available at GLB (coming with mMAG friendly plastic screws !) http://www.goodluckbuy.com/5050-standard-plastic-protective-shell-c...

@CSG Shop: I´m still waiting for my Max M8Q rep. ;-)

  • Got mine a few days ago, the build quality is just top notch!

  • You can use I2C UART or USB connection for GPS reading writing.

  • Hi,

I have a question about this board. Is there a proper datasheet about it?

Moreover, is the i2c there only to be able to communicate with the compas ? Basically, my question is to know whether it is possible to communicate with the GPS via i2c or if it can only be done via uart or usb.

    Thanks,

    Adrien

  • We have make also MINI version of this board. New board have size 30x30 mm and weight 14 gram.

Avail with HMC5983 magnetometer or without this.

  • Great. I am a little bit jealous of the guys with BeiDou coverage. Already your NEO-M8N with 35mm Dual Band antenna is outperforming any other GPS I ever used here in Europe. Never expected the concurrent GLONASS / GPS benefit in combination with a big patch which is designed to cover both bands.

  • Now avail with Triple band antenna. GPS, Glonass, Beidou
