Good news for those who wanted the APM 2.5+ with side pins (best for multicopters): they're now available fully assembled in the enclosure, with the usual GPS and Power Module (shown). No more connector soldering required!

We're also offering APM 2.5+ kits with the 3DR telemetry pack, in both 915Mhz (US) and 433Mhz (Europe) versions, and both side-pin and top-pin varieties.

In addition, we're having an End of Year sale of Ready-to-Fly ArduCopters and Arduplanes. You can take $50 off the already-discounted holiday prices of any RTF vehicle by using the discount code RTF05. That brings their prices down to:

RTF 3DR ArduPlane ($500)

RTF 3DR ArduCopter Quad ($550)

RTF 3DR ArduCopter Hexa ($715)

Finally, check out some of the other sale items at the 3DR store, including $15 off the MinimOSD board and a new lower price for the PX4 AR.Drone replacement kit, which allows you to turn your Parrot AR.Drone into a real drone!

Michael: the main difference is the labor of assembling the kit, configuring and testing it. It takes a worker a few hours at the factory. If you're happy to spend that time yourself are are willing to handle the risk of an error in the assembling process, the kit is the right choice for you.  The RTF version is for people who just want something that works, right out of the box.

  • The hexa kit is $520 but the hexa ready-to-fly is $765.  I do see that the RTF comes with a spare arm.  This will be my 2nd arducopter.  Why is the RTF so much more expensive?  Does it come with something else that I'm not aware of?  There must be some additional hardware in the RTF that I'm overlooking.

  • @AlanGP

I chose overnight shipping and had a pretty quick turn around time for the item shipping. However, the 3DR team forgot some cables and my power module. I've since emailed and tweeted them but they haven't gotten back to me. Maybe there is a delay there?

  • Any delays on current orders?

    Regards  Alan

  • @Chris Anderson I just completed my APM order! If you happen to have an eye on the shipments, keep an eye out for mine from my @fordham.edu email address : ) This APM is going to be used in a very wonky project...the 3DR team will be proud once we release our findings.

Thanks to you and the team, and happy new year.

  • Chris, I messaged you on Google+

Alan: Did you enter the discount code above?

Thanks, Pierre -- glad it's working out so well for you!

  • Hi Chris, Have just bought the new 2.5, and tested it strait away and I have GPS 3D fix in my den. what a beauty. I had never been able to have a fix with Apm 2.00.  Thanks to the team. Pierre

  • I'm very tempted by the "ready-to-fly" package, but I'm curious as to how easy it is to move the electronics package from one airframe to another.

I'm looking at buying a "long-airtime" (2+ hours) plane and would rather swap the ArduPlane (and FPV, etc) out instead of buying a complete second kit.
