  • @Sergio -- The orange cover screw hole to screw hole is over 8cm, so 7.4 may be ok, depending on how the cables stick out. The width is also more like 5-6cm. The spacers for the orange cover are 25mm in height, so also more than the 2cm for the APM. If you needed more height, you could always get longer spacers.
  • This looks like a really nice kit, I would like to know if the APM w/ shield is going to fit in there? Unfortunately, my APM is in the mail, so I cant get exact dimensions - however I think that the dimensions stated on the diydrones site should be accurate. (7.4 cm (L) x 4.1 cm (W) x 2 cm (H))

Though you might add a bit to the height if the shield is on top.
  • @Sergio -- web server had to be restarted. Should be good now.
  • Link seems to be dead.

  • @Axure:  I will take some video and post it.  The recommended props can produce thrust of about 700g each -- or 2100g total.  The fully built kit without lipo weights 630g.  Add a 200g lipo and 200g GoPro and your at around 1kg -- or about half of the thrust total of the engines.  This assumes you're using 10x4.5 props and a 3s Lipo.

@Don -- The frame has 20mm of space between the bamboo camera mount and the bottom frame plate.  You can fit a bunch of things in there.  The flight controller space on the top was sized to fit a multiwiicopter board (which is round and bigger than the KK board).  If you send me the dimensions of the ArduPilot/Oilpan board, I can confirm it'll fit well under the orange flight controller cover.

  • Im already on the pre-order list but i do have a question... Is there enough room to mount the ArduPilot/Oilpan within the frame as well as gps?. It is a bit larger than the kkmulticopter controller but after my last kk experience i much rather use AC2.

  • Very cool stuff.  Love the foldability.  But we want to see a flight video!

Also, performance questions immediately pop up to mind: What's the acceptable payload? (I can see on your website it can take a Go Pro.) What's the flight time? etc.

  • Hooks -- not sure if it's intentional and just to make sure it's clear: the tricopter kit posted here is a kit, available for sale, that is made from 2.3mm Delrin.  You said "delrin would be perfect material"... what I am saying is that "Delrin IS the perfect material" and the reason we used it for our kit.

    I like your Y6 design :)

@Tim: You are so right. Delrin would be perfect material.

I'm working myself on a Y6 design but made out of Carbon and Alu. It's made for heavy loading.

  • Alex -- Great question!! The mount is the exact same on the top and bottom.  If you use the suggested AX-2213N motors, you can even use the included hardware to mount 2 motors on the same mount.  The only thing you'll need is another plain motor mount -- as the back mount is different due to the Yaw assembly -- you could still mount two motors on the back mount, but you'd have to fix the rotation of the Yaw, maybe with some tape.  I am thinking of making extra motor mounts an optional accessory for building a Y6.
