OSRC on the Hack A Day contest

3689605282?profile=original

Hack a Day has a very nice contest which i think goes well with the OSRC theme. Since in order to win there is nothing else but the support from the community and their votes, this is your chance to help the project by simply voting for it.

With the help of the Cash Prize i shall be able to make the system affordable for everyone and cut the price to half if not more than what is currently in the Pre-Order of the site.

I guess if the price is the only concern most people have with the system, this is the best option and seems the easiest to accomplish by just voting for it.

For those, unfamiliar with the project, you can check it out on its website at www.os-rc.com

A more detailed description can also be found in the Products Description.

I guess things must have changed since I last read about it 3 years ago. There was a debate with renatoa on RCG about whether or not you were including the touch screen and at the time, it was going to be put in without an option but I guess a few things have changed since then.

Yes, it is more advanced than a Taranis with regard to hardware as it's modular, which I understand. Good luck with finishing the project.

  • @healthyfatboy This is waaaay more advanced than Taranis or any other RC that exist on the market for that matter..

Plus its modular so if you don't want you can buy it without the screen on the lower part or you can do something easier, just don't use the included screen for FPV ;-) ....

  • I recommend reading the actual description of the project and the news to find out more about the project.

  • @healthyfatboy - I think the main thing is that it is 2 way - ie. feedback to the joysticks from the plane ! Plus modular and built in FPV etc.

I am currently working on the opposite. A simpler controller. My issue with current controllers is that there is a switch for D/R for each channel, and other modes etc that I just don't use for my multi copter. And the mode switch (2 pos + 3 pos, and no feedback) drive me nuts. And not water proof.

My plan is to use a Turnigy 9x (I have one spare, but would prefer a Taranis) as parts to pull apart and build into my own box. The joystick will have a thin rubber (latex) over them, like used in medical equipment for waterproof. Mode switch will be a 6 position switch with mode output. Sticks will be further apart.

I don't like the screen built into the receivers like this - there are a few others on the market similar - I think screens mounted above and tipped in are better - easier to see in the light.

Hasn't this been in development for three years and on pre-order for at least a year? I remember reading about this long ago but am surprised it still hasn't been released.

With the Taranis having many of the same functions (aside from built-in touch screen), what else does this add to a typical transmitter at much higher cost? I can already integrate all telemetry information I need in the Taranis using a Teensy 3.1. I can't get video but I think my neck would go out looking down for FPV.

Even at half price, it's still way out of my range.
