PX4 supports tilt-rotor and tailsitter VTOL airframes

Progress on VTOL for the PX4 Flight Core: Full forward and back transitions now with tailsitters and tilt-rotors.

We have now full VTOL support for tilt-rotors, in addition to tailsitters, which were introduced six months ago (video). People interested in flying these can find contact details and build logs on this page. You can follow us on G+ or on Twitter for general PX4 platform updates.

  • I would sure like to know where this is at now I know guys have been having good success dumping AVA. What is the switch over like and is there a forum / github whatever with the play by play info thats up to date.

  • Finally, some action on VTOL tailsitters. Great news! I'm a newbie on PX4, but looking forward to lots of creative new VTOL designs. Where can I /who can I talk with for help converting my three VTOL tailsitters (currently running on the KK2.1.5 board) to Pixhawk/PX4?

  • This is  great news

  • Awesome stuff guys! Will be adding myself to the testers list!

Do you also support non-tilt rotor VTOL (quad) with a pusher motor? Is there a way to configure your existing system to do this to get smooth airspeed based transitions between fight modes?

  • Why not add this to the APM also?  It's not like there's much math involved, and we really don't need "transitions".

A simple "prophang" mode added to the mix would suffice.

  • Keeping drone startup valuations soaring.

  • Spectacular.  Congratulations!

  • This is AWESOME.

Many thanks to all developers who made this possible
