Hi everybody! I'm very happy to announce that the Remzibi OSD DIY Drones variant is now in stock in the DIY Drones store!

Our version is fully compatible with the original design and will work with Happy Killmore's config tool.

Our price is $89.99, this includes a custom FTDI programming cable and a set of pin headers.

Links and full feature list are available on the product page.

We hope you enjoy this one, and as always, feedback is welcome!

  • I solved my issues with the remzibi osd 3dr. All works perfect now. i will make a post about it soon.

@guillesan Diydrones will update remzibi store page with the firmware soon. I understand your frustation, PM me with your email if you need the firmware sooner.

  • I need that firmware 1.75, I deleted it by mistake, I need help URGENTLY. Any ideas, thanks

  • Hi all,

I bought this board and i'm very disappointed with it :(

I tried to use to use the Mediatek GPS with normal and older firmwares, and it didn't work. (BTW, i just noticed now  an update on the diydrones store, a firmware is provided to update the GPS to work with Remzibi OSD 3DR).

    Some issues i found:

    - It shows numbers in the whole screen.

    - Screen moves and offsets its position.

    - After 10~20 seconds it shows glitches and mixed up characters all over the screen and it shows again the whole screen with numbers.

    Anyone had this issues?

One other thing was how to connect the board to the remzibi OSD software, after more that 2 days i finally got it to connect.

I was also able to update firmware using megaload at 38400 baud rate, but now the blue led does not power anymore, and OSD does not work, i only see intro message with firmware version and no GPS detection.

NOTE: DO NOT UPDATE THE DEFAULT FIRMWARE (1.75) UNTIL MORE DETAILS ARE RELEASED.

I updated mine and now it does not work anymore.

Can anyone help me with it, or can anyone from DIYDRONES provide the 1.75 firmware that comes with the board.

  • Patience prevails (thanks to Paul and his detailed blog http://www.happykillmore.com/Software/Faq.asp#2 )

The DIY remzibi OSD board only powers up when you provide the +12V and GND to (the 2 pins near the top of the image above).   To put the board in programming mode (to demo that "Serial Cable Setup" works), I did as follows:

    1) install and run remzibi OSD by running setup.exe from the above site

    2) connect DIY drones FTDI cable (the 4 wire one that shipped with the board) to (TX,RX,5V,GND) with black wire to GND :-),  and identify and Connect to the COM port (appears in Device manager under Ports(COM & LPT)

    3) hold down SW1 on the DIY board and then apply 12V power to the board (the blue LED will come on)

    4) when you release SW1, you are in programming mode, and can continue with the wonderfully detailed instructions on the URL above.

    5) Pressing "Start Test" on the Serial Cable Setup tab produced a nice green "Passed (Firmware Version 1.75)  which I liked much better than the old red "Failed: OSD did not respond"  (it could't before; the ATmega32A processor was brain dead from no power :-P )

I hope these details may help save some of you the frustration and delay of having to reverse engineer your own DIY drones board.    Happy flying (and try to land with the greasy side down as they say in flight school.)

  • installed remzibi OSD on Vista x64.  Tried to do Serial Setup without success.  Used DIY drones FTDI cable to connect to DIY drones board (no other pins connected to anything), performed connect to COM23, then (per instructions) hold down SW1 while connect 4 wires of DIY cable to DIY board, then released SW1. Pressed "Start Test" and after 15sec got "Failed:OSD didn't not respond. Outbound Messages= R and Inbound Messages= Data Read: Failed"

Saw same behavior after a few tries.  Tried RESET and then repeat, but no joy.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong  (I hate to give up !  this thing would be GREAT if I could get it to work! )

    Paul,

Really sorry to hear that. I think it may have been the case of a new engineer not being aware of your contribution (I wasn't involved with this project). Let me have the team get in touch with you and sort this out. We owe you a bunch of free hardware at least!

Paul, I am horrified to hear this!
Open source or not, that is not the way you should have been treated!

I had assumed you were part of the 3DR reincarnation, esp after all the hard work you had put in over the years!
  • I too am disappointed. I had to buy my own 3DR Remzibi OSD after it came out. Not once was I contacted during development. Once I got mine, I couldn't get it to work with my software. So far, I've been able to get it to program but I can't get it to update firmware.

  • Thanks Sam,

I got it working. I thought I had tried all combinations of pushing buttons during reset. Now it seems to work fine.

Tom - I can sympathise with your frustration, but this board does seem to be compatible with the OSD Config tool. Are you able to get the serial test to work correctly? I have managed to successfully download a config, and also hook up GPS, and video in/out. Still waiting on my APM...

    Rod.

  • I'm sorry I didn't read these posts more carefully before I spent >$110 w tax and shipping for this seemingly undocumented offering from 3D Robotics.   After spending most of the day trying to figure out the pin assignments and map them onto the real Remzibi (which seems a totally different object) I have given up.

I hope 3D has plans to document this thing, but given it was released in Dec 2011 and it is now mid March 2012, I wonder.   This is more than a little disappointing.
