There was a blog post a while ago of someone who made his wiring very clean by wrapping it together, so I decided to do the something cause I was very tired of all these random wiring sticking out everywhere. I also decided to move the battery to the bottom of the quad so that the quad is not so out of balance with the battery at the back.

Well I see you use the GoPro underwater housing, that adds up to about 175 grams including the camera; my gimbal + camera is about 200 grams so that's negligible I guess. Here is it sitting on my desk:
You see I think your gimbals weight is the counter part there, I do not have a that much weight in the front
I was near you last May when visiting family, but I live in the Netherlands so not so easy to come over and fly unfortunately :(
Quite strange that you have so much difficulty with your balance; I have a 400gr 4S lipo in the rear tray and a self-made 3D printed brushless gimbal in the front with a GoPro 3, balance is exactly right. Without the gimbal it was leaning slightly backward, but the APM stabilized that out perfectly too.
What I wanted is a protector for my gopro and the section there that is left open for the gopro is for the gopro without the protective casing. My biggest issue with this frame is where they want you to put the battery, it throws of the whole balance and it ends up me pushing forward the whole time just to have a steady hover. How I have set it up now is I do not have to push forward or left or right to keep a steady hover and it is much easier if I want to look at something or go somewhere where it is tricky. See this video where I flew my quad at my friends paintball place in Irene, if you do not have steady hover this is a nightmare to guide thru the trees.
Yes I know of the PPM Conversion, I want to try it out one day.

Hello there in Pretoria (have family living very close to you) ;)
I also have this Reptile 500 frame and I immediately noticed they carved out "FC" from the top plate while the FPV camera mount should ideally be on the left side, so the GoPro sits with its lens centered. So what I did is just flip the frame plates over and all is well.
Another tip for fixing your wiring: put a jumper on your APM's input signal pins 2 and 3 (see documentation page here, look at the second image) and connect only ONE servo lead from your RX's PPM port, just make sure your RX supports this. If your RX doesn't support PPM you can still save 50% of your wires by connecting 2 servo wiring sideways over 3 signal pins at the same time and 2 other servo wires normally. This way, the RX is still powered via 2 wires but all 8 channels are still connected on the signal pins ;)

what I did is upload version 3.01 and erased my eeprom, that is it. Make sure there is no vibrations on the apm, the gyro gets confused very quickly. I will upload a flight I did today at 60m agl and it was dead stable. Maybe post some pics on your setup en a video of your flight.
can you share your PID settings ? I have the same frame however cant fly it
The reason I decided to do this was because I did some FPVing and I lost video feed as a tree was between me and the quad and I then switched to return to landing but because of the quad not being up to standard it was battling to get back to me.
