After complete several rounds of quadcopter assembly [ trying out various frames and motors ], I have listed some accessories and connectors which I personally found useful and will recommend them to be in your inventory if you are building your own quad/hex/octo copter.

  • I found this super useful wire!!  Cable to connect your Phantom 2 FPV system (or Phantom 1 with Upgrade Board (P330CB-H3-2D)) to your Fat Shark/ ImmersionRC transmitter when using a GoPro 3 and a DJI Zenmuse H3-2D Gimbal.

  • To continue on the above...

x3 0.1" pins from HK both female and male.

This guy is good to those M3 bolts.

I store my batteries in a Cognac metal box for safety. Its a good reason to buy one of the more expensive bottles...

  • 0.1" crimp pins and connector housings!!!

One of my best decisions was to buy at least one of each from the 2 first pages of there search results.

I use basic cable strippers and pliers to crimp the pins to cable. It almost always works... :-) If you can afford it get the crimping tool...

For removing pins from housings these pliers are perfect. They are sharp enough to get under the little nubbin in the housing to lift it and then you can pull out the pin.

  • I have one that I've recently come across.  It's called polymorph or instamorph or a few other brand names.  It's basically small plastic pellets that you can melt in hot water at about 60c, or using an oven or heat gun, at which point it becomes a stiff putty like consistency that you can mold into any shape.  Once it cools it becomes a hard durable plastic, kind of like delrin.  You can reuse the stuff an infinite number of times, just re heat.  It sticks to itself when hot so you can make complex parts.  I've used it to make a platform for my GPS module on my quad, a mount for my FPV board cam, and even a catapult toy for my kids.  Must have!

Yea thanks Muhammad I have found an alternative at ebay and already ordered. Free shipping. Thanks for the info.

  • @Hien,

Haha, that makes no sense to me. Free shipping across the pond but nothing to the continent next door?

Well, I guess you can comb through Ebay or Aliexpress for someone that will actually ship to you, or you can pay up for shipping from Adafruit or Sparkfun. Not sure where else I would get them from that would make it to South Africa.

  • @Hein

I bought an arduino kit from dx.com a while back and they included a lot of male and female headers which have come in useful for my rc stuff. One day i will use the kit.

lol Muhammad, when I tried to order the pins from eBay, the seller said he can't ship to South Africa because it's too far...

  • JB Weld.   Sparingly of course.

  • Threadlock (the blue kind)!
