The BIG Skywalker FPV UAV platform

Skywalker is now in a new version made of EPO foam. Much stronger foam.

Length: 1180mm
Wingspan: 1680mm
Wing Area¡G35.5dm2
Wing Loading¡G36.6

Recommendation
4 x 9g Servo
3S1P 11.1V 2200mAH-5000mAH
Motor: 2215-1200KV or 2815-900KV
Propeller: APC-9045E 9060E

I think this platform could be the replacement for the smaller Easystar if it's possible. What do you think?

Skywalker is now in stock! This is not the EPS foam, this is the new EPO version - much stronger foam.

  • I am just about ready to put my ardu hardware in a plane...Is the concensus, that the Skywalker is better than the Easystar.... I want the best route...thanks....

  • Wouldnt glassfiber be too heavy?

When a copy made in glassfiber is ready I gess there will be hatches just where you need it :-)
  • It would be good if the hatch was already designed in from the factory. For example one hatch under the wing (reinforced) and one in the front of the plane. This one of my issues with the RTF models: difficult access to electronics in the field.

  • you have to probably fab the hatch yourself i guess
  • Looks like this may be a nice FPV plane. One benefit of a T tail like that is that the horizontal stabilizer surface are further removed from the grass if you land on grass (all my landings are on grass). This may prevent damage to the control surfaces since grass is less stiff on top than on the bottom of the straws. It is also less dense. However as Jay points out, making the T-tail stiff will probably add to the mass. This may in turn lead to more force exerted on the rear mass of the aircraft when the body is rapidly decelerated as it is in hard a landing.

A comment from my side would be about the wing design. It looks like the wing design has no dihedral designed in. Would not that lack of dihedral make no Dihedral effect (the amount of roll moment produced per degree of sideslip) so that the tail rudder is less effective for bank control? Also the roll stability would be lower, making aileron corrections necessary?

Another comment would be that a good size hatch should be designed in on top of the fuselage so that there is good access to the electronics from above! Few of the designs I have seen so far adress that. This is a very important feature for experimenters like me. I dont like to rip out all the wiring and boards since I then have to carefully stuff everything back inside before flying. This takes a lot of time on the strip and often causes problems due to omissions or missed connects, loose connectors etc.

Is the designer of the aircraft reading this forum?

  • Some plane are in stock with descent price :

  • The mass of the T tail could be give a torque problem on a hard landing, Have you given any thought to a lower version?
  • hooks i would buy two of them ,seriously price to the US if possible !!
