  • Sony cyber shots, 2 cameras, one with modified lense for near IR. package weighed 2.5 pounds and was only 5mp but was adequate for biomass analysis and fungus studies, among others.
  • Hi, does anyone here know the maximum wavelength that can be detected in the NIR by a converted camera?

  • David,

We are using Rosco #2007 VS

  • The results from unexposed film is a little different from what is being offered on the kickstarter which is along the lines of the SuperBlue filter sold by LifePixel. Unexposed film passes mostly near-infrared light with very little visible light getting through. The SuperBlue and kickstarter filters pass blue and near-infrared light. Having that visible band/channel lets you create NDVI-like images from a single image since the reflectance of both blue and red light by plants is very low. To make NDVI image using unexposed film you need two cameras - one for near-infrared and one for visible (usually red).

Hey just on this... did you actually purchase the infrared filter from lifepixel?

I heard that you could get a similar result from using processed unexposed film negative.

Ah, very cool.  That seems to be an all in one process made by the same guys that did my method.  I used ACID to identify the firmware and download the correct firmware.  Then WICKS to prepare the card and install the firmware.  Took about 30 seconds all up.  Took longer to work out which was the ALT button.  Lol.

  • Yes, we got CHDK working on it.  This tool is very helpful.

Ah great. Thanks. Did you manage to CHDK it too? I was looking at doing the same mod to a 2400.
  • David,

Sorry for the delay, I spaced it out. Canon PowerShot A2300 HD :-)

Josh, did you get a chance to find out the model of the camera?
