Dear All,
As I announced on this forum we are aiming to build a man carrying drone; it is a multicopter. we have made quite some progress. Have a look:

Do not want to ruin your idea but this has already been done :

At least if you have a fly away you wont lose it.
The design is not ridiculous, and probably this machine will have incidents and accidents too but trial & error is the correct way (if a plastic passenger is on board) and in the near future you guys will see a magnificent flying machine. Really I wanna see you achieve your goal Winfried.
@Sean, some kind of impact absorbing undercarriage and a much stronger safety cell around the pilot should be considered mandatory. I'd also say that a more reliable system than timing belts would also be mandatory, partly because they can break in the right conditions, but also because flex in the frame from even mild maneuvers could easily cause the belts to dislodge from their idlers and pulleys. direct drive and variable pitch props would be a must... none the less, I really feel that a firey, painful death is inevitable with the proposed design.
@Jesse
I try to be supportive too. Lord knows I've had enough ideas "shot down" by people close to me whom, IMO just really didn't understand what I was saying. My support for peoples ideas diminishes when I see something that I feel has the real and possibly to do serious damage or kill someone. This is not just a drawing and a dream either, they appear to actually be intending to put a human inside, possibly in the near future. If that is the case, I would recommend, at a minimum, whomever occupies that, wears whatever people who race motorcycles wears. Personally I'd prefer a closed cockpit from a modern P1 car.
personally I try to be supportive of new projects, but there's no way on earth that you'll pass air safety regulations. timing belts just wont cut it. if one snaps during takeoff, landing or low level flight then there is no way you'll avoid a catastrophic incident, and with the pilot at the bottom of the aircraft the poor bugger flying it will break the fall... a parachute safety system needs time to work, that time translates into about 300 (ish) meters on an awesome system. if you were going to fly 50-100kg of cargo however, I'd say that it's a good plan so far!! but a person? I think that is an impressively dangerous idea... sorry...
Without variable pitch blades (among other things) I don't see how you could possibly control this. I saw a video of a Chinese fella with a octo I believe that was powered by lawnmower engines. The results were not promising, though it did make for some tense youtube viewing. The startup process alone was heroic. I am by no means saying this is impossible, just that I don't understand how it could work with what I have seen.
Sitting under the wash? The middle props will not provide lift?
The design is ridiculous !!!

It looks totally practical to me. Even better if it can be designed to fold up into a small cube that could be worn on your wrist.
