New wing from Skywalker factory >>X8 UAV platform<<
For those who want Long range / Long flying time / High payload the new X8 wing will get you there..
The wing X8, will be released early 2012.
Wing span: 2122mm
Wing area: 80dm2
valid payload: 1000-2000g

I am SO jealous, Hooks! lol
So, what is your opinion so far of the X8? Is it as sexy in real life as it looks in photos?
X8 Wing EPS foam test version arrived.
Remember this version is still test version made in white EPS foam.
X8 UAV wing
Hello Sir
I am building several, I am using the designs that are established and proven, 3+ meters. One of the designs are done by a genius Italian designer I attach the wing section for you to see. Unfortunately he is no longer with us, I hope we use his design to honour him and benefit his family.
There are several problems with 3+ meters wings carrying large loads (5+kg):
1. The Wings might not be stable and crash, with a large payload of electronics that crash might be expensive.
2. The Wings might have to be made from harder materials so they do not snap in mid air. I am working with a guy how can build them with harder materials. The cost might somewhat higher.
3. Shape of the cargo area could affect the fight, so we need a design that the shape of the cargo will not alter the fight parameters of the wing.
I am more than glad to make the wings at cost and ship them to you in Italy. I will include the breakdown of the costs shortly.

Hi Dara,
Also I'm interested. I now have a glider FPV of 3.6 meters size wing. And I want a good flying wing to carry a large payload and for long flight times. 3.2 meters are a good size. But is possible to arrive to 4.4 or 5 meters in size of the wing?
For shipment I am in Italy. Sorry for my poor English.
Hello Michael
Yes it will be cut for storage. I will post the shipment costs in a few days.
The cutting costs (give or take a few dollars) from my manufacturer, I am willing to do some pass-thru pricing to get us better planes:
Wing-span 3.2 m
$160 USD for 1.3#EPP
$66 USD for 1#EPS
Note: if you like custom-order cuts and drilling, the prices will be a bit higher:
Wing-span 3.2 m
$210 USD for 1.3#EPP
$100 USD for 1#EPS
These numbers will drop drastically once there is an acceptable design, and I can order a large batch.
Disclaimers:
1. These costs do not include shipment or taxes.
2. I specify where to place the servos and the CG position, but you need to install the DIY electronics yourself.
3. These numbers are not quotes, just what is available for us to get ourselves some non-toy airplanes. There are lots of caveats to concern with.

Dara,
Will the breakdown for storage and transport? Any idea on price?
Thanks again.
Here is a sample wing attached, this wing is not tested yet but the one tested I do not have such a model for. You get an idea about the shapes. The wingspans are 2.2 to 3.2m they need to be winched though. The winch machine is reasonably priced and can be carried in a small case.
They are not my designs, and no one should design these from scratch, my design part is to add the cargo container 1-5 kg. The cargo container has to be an add-on to glue to the wing, it should not be a part of the mould or cutting.
My plan is to make a small batch of these wings in EPP with fiberglass hardened edges + DIY electronics sold in this community. FEB/MARCH is my timeframe.
Problem is not to have a wing that flies, the problem is to carry load and have stable flight.
I hope very much, to make the designs OPEN SOURCE, I see much talent in the community here and much smarter than myself can perfect the work. But still toying with the ideas.
Manufacturer who can turn these designs into EPP inexpensively is in USA, the cost of shipping to outside USA is high due to the size. I am working with a shipping company in Canada see if we can reduce the shipment cost.

Dara,
I'd love to see that as well. Is this a commercial venture or just something for yourself? Will there be plans?
Thanks
Hi Dara,
I'm very interested. I'm traveling to Northern Greenland in march to fly a Ardupiot equipped plane to make photo mosaics of the ice shelf. I've installed my APM in an 8' Senior Telemaster, flew and tuned it yesterday. It flies fine, but think the airframe (Balsa + Monokote) will not hold up well at -10 degrees F. I have an EPP Mothership 83" flying wing ready to assemble. I'll need to modify it with a fuse/pod to hold the camera payload. Would also like to build it so it will come apart for shipping. This means a custum jig to drill wing tubes. Not looking forward to that level of building. That's why a factory built system would be best for me. Feel free to contact me jbaileyATwhoiDOTedu
DARA: I am interested you have any photos or 3D image?
