Before Posting an Issue

Hi All,

Before posting an issue or a problem in the ArduRover Discussion Forum, please check the wiki table of contents, review the firmware release notes in the subforum, and search that subforum for existing answers to your question. Help avoid duplicate threads by finding other members with the same issue and their solution.

When formulating your post, use a descriptive title such as "rover will not navigate to waypoints in the Auto mode" (not "HELP!" or "Problem").

Please include the following information to help diagnose your query:

  • Describe the problem you are having. What is the expected verses the observed behavior?
  • Provide hardware information such as the brand and version of your autopilot, GPS, radio, and compass, as well as any other pertinent details about your rover setup.
  • What version of the APM: ArdurRover2 firmware version are you running?
  • For navigation issues, provide your tlog and/or dataflash log. Click here for instructions on retrieving a dataflash log.

    Hi All,

    Linus and I have been experimenting with the Sharp long range IR sensor GP2Y0A710YK

    For those of you who would like to experiment with that sensor, the following equation is reasonably accurate from 100cm to 450cm:

    R=(153/(V-1))-1 where R is the range in cm and V is the measured voltage in volts.

    @Anthony,

    Actually the ArduRover code uses the aileron channel for steering and not the rudder. My 6WD rover uses a Sabertooth dual channel ESC to provide skid steering with just the aileron and elevator inputs and works quite well.

  • I'll "third" the dual throttle feature (if this is meant in the differential thrust steering sense)  - I will be starting a large 45" RC boat build this coming week with APM2 and about 15AH of battery, and the second stage of our development plan involves getting differential thrust steering working (and not using the rudder.) Currently I planned to use an Uno or Mega to interpret the throttle and rudder settings and output differential thrust signals to the motors, but that adds a degree of complexity. 

  • I second the motion by Doug Chevrier on the dual throttle feature for boats. I would love to incorporate it myself but am not familiar enough with the code. Either the elevator or rudder channel could be used for this I think.  Glad to see this work taking place. Thanks!

    I agree. Just that expected a kit that I could connect to the APM immediately. They should have included in the description that you will need a cable to connect to an APM2.5.

    Waited about 3 weeks or so for it to arrive then I had to order a connector. Also support needs to dial in on their customer concerns instead of a one liner.

    Perhaps this is common/acceptable outside North America or I'm getting too old with less patience. :)

    I posted that more for information purposes and so people would have a choice should they decide to take a chance on a knock-off.

    I have actually read a lot of good things about it and some people have had a few issues here or there but nothing out of the ordinary for the most part. As for the telemetry radios and their connectors not being 100% compatible, my guess is it is compatible in the way of comms, not necessarily the connectors for some instances. Making a cable isn't that big of a deal since this is DIY Drones, not PNP Drones, even if there is more of a push that direction. There's still stuff to do yourself.

    The one thing 3DR definitely has over any other place is customer service and I wholeheartedly agree with everyone that 3DR will support customers when there is a problem. Much like Hobby King back in the day, you take your chances but generally, things work out just fine and in the end, it gets more people into the amateur drone hobby.

    What do you expect from a Chinese based company? Even Hobby King, which is a really going enteprise, has pretty bad custome servoce. You get what you pay for!! Buyer beware!!

  • I purchased a telemetry kit from RCTimer as well as one from 3DR.
    It was advertised as 100% compatible but I could not connect it to the APM. The connector was the wrong type. I emailed RCTimer and waited 6 days. Their response was to use a different cable.
    Thanks for the support. Told them I would not purchase anything from them again.
    I did make a cable to fit and tested it on Sunday. It worked but not sure if any better or worse than 3DR.
    I have to setup the 3DR board for a comparison.
    It was cheap and I was prepared to throw it away if it didn't work.

New rover advice

Hi, i am looking to build a new rover, but i need some advice on the chassis. I like the 4wd chassis/tank look and prefer it over the crawler/rc look.are those any good though? most people recommend crawlers.I am looking to get something from banggood, any advice will be highly appreciated. thanks

skid steer vehicle steering uncontrollable

Hi all, I have a skid steer robot using a pixhawk cube, one 1x15 roboclaw motor controller and a dagu wild thumper 4 wheel chassis. I have skid steering working so far, testing motor c and motor d tests works as described and the vehicle can be controlled in manual mode. However, upon using any mode other than manual mode the rover wants to shake and pivot on the spot, and it seems the steering PID controller oscillates and these oscillations get larger. i have tried everything but it is still…

Traxxas X-Maxx ROVER ESC advice

Hi,I have converted a Traxxas X-Maxx into a rover using the Pixhawk Cube 2 controller kit with a Here GNSS.I swapped out the original X-Maxx remote controller for an X6R receiver and Taranis QX7 radio.latest version of ArduRover firmware installed as of 8/11/18.  The rover has an EZRun Max6 ESC. The problem now is the ESC control over the transition into reverse. Hi all.I know this is an Adurover group, but Thought I would reach out and try my odds for some help as I'm perplexed by this problem. I have a Traxxas X-Maxx set up with a Pixhawk Cube 2.1 and the Here GPS.
