Becoming a Documentation Editor!

Welcome! Documentation editors play a key role in the DIY Drones community. Our ongoing discussions and efforts for the Ardupilot.com sites can be found here at the APM Wiki Editors Discussion Group. The best way to get involved in documentation is to pay the Editors Discuss group a visit, request to join the group, and start participating!

If you'd like edit permission on the Ardupilot.com manual sites, to fix or add something, please join the group above. We'll send you an introductory email with information about how to get started editing the APM Wikis.

This group here on DIY Drones has mostly just an organization role; it's a way for people who would like to join the documentation team to register their interest, and to show them the correct steps in getting started.

  • Hi all,

I've spent the last several days going through every single wiki page of all three of the new WordPress wikis as well as the common wiki pages which live on the dev wiki. I have transported every picture that was still being linked to on the google wiki to the WP wiki and have fixed every single broken link (hundreds) and moved them from the Google wiki to the WP wiki wherever needed.

I have only fixed the pages that were in the TOC_Menu(s) which are the menus used to define the Reference Manual Table Of Contents, but most of what is left is redundant, hopelessly out of date or irreparable as they stand.

I had been intending to do this awful job for some time, but what finally spurred me into action is the fact that the old wikis image links are failing with the Message "Project Over Quota" coming up when you open one of the broken image links in a new tab.

All 8 images in the old wikis Airspeed sensor page fail to display currently and give the above message, I don't know whether they will fix this or not, but I think Ive possibly just fixed the other wiki in time (although I haven't finished APM:Plane  Optional additions yet or the actual developer pages.

And- at the moment the WP Wiki site is down to since 10:00 this morning.

  • Hi Dennis,

    Looking good,

As soon as I get some time free from fixing broken wiki links and tidying I will try and follow it through myself and may do some editing at the same time as well as have some questions for you if I hit a wall.

Thank you very much for this it is a significant contribution.

  • Thank you Dennis!

  • My camping got delayed until next week so, I finished up my contribution (the limits of my knowledge) for Compiling Mission Planner.  I consider that Wiki now open for tests and modifications by the community.  Thanks for all the help.  On to the next project

  • Hi Dennis, noticed that you already added Craigs comments below.

I tidied up the HTML a bit, added some line separator breaks, got rid of some unnecessary nbsps and fixed a few h2 headers.

But have changed none of your text.

    Great Job.

    @ Dennis  re: Compiling MP

you also need to do the following:

right click on the project > Build Events > remove all pre and post build options
right click on the project > Build > Configuration > Active Debug
  • Great Dennis,

Looks Good, I will give it a try.

    Thank You,

    Gary

  • Had some time before our camping so  http://dev.ardupilot.com/wiki/compile-mission-planner/ is in better shape. Still needs work but perhaps some folks could test the process.  Back late next week (26th)

  • Hi Dennis, You are published here: http://dev.ardupilot.com/wiki/compile-mission-planner/

Please edit it there directly as a Wiki page from now on and not your original common version.

And you are in the developer table of contents.

I know a lot of editing remains, but the info is solid and the sooner it is available, the better.

    Regards,

    Gary

  • Hi Dennis,

This looks like an excellent start.

But as Craig says we do need to make it a not "common-" page so it is only accessible from the Developer wiki.

Programming stuff will all be only in the developer wiki.

I am going to make a second page of this that is not common- but has the same title and you can continue to edit on that.

I will not remove the common one yet, and we can temporarily keep it for reference, then you can dump it when you are ready.

In the meantime, please edit the non-common "Compiling Mission Planner" page which I will also publish and place in the Developer Table of Contents.

This is a really important and valuable document and it looks like you are off to a great start with it.

At some point, if you don't mind, I will dig into it to "tidy" it up a bit and verify functionality.

    Thank You very Much!

    Gary
