Becoming a Documentation Editor!

Welcome! Documentation editors play a key role in the DIY Drones community. Our ongoing discussions and efforts for the Ardupilot.com sites can be found here at the APM Wiki Editors Discussion Group. The best way to get involved in documentation is to pay the Editors Discuss group a visit, request to join the group, and start participating!

If you'd like edit permission on the Ardupilot.com manual sites, to fix or add something, please join the group above. We'll send you an introductory email with information about how to get started editing the APM Wikis.

This group here on DIY Drones has mostly just an organization role; it's a way for people who would like to join the documentation team to register their interest, and to show them the correct steps in getting started.

  • I like it a lot. We were just talking about it today actually. Our only concern is how the 1100px would work for tablet users.

  • Ollie,

I like the idea a lot, in fact this is something I was hoping we could incorporate. It looks to be fairly straightforward to implement.

Alex, what do you think of this idea?

  • Hi all,

Mini self intro - I part own a small web development company in the UK but we also do small wordpress (for ease!) websites for local businesses.

What brings me here is that I've just started to really getting into the RC world, almost finishing my first quad!

Anyway, I was suggested to post some feedback here and would even like to offer up helping.

I love the new wiki but I really like the old sidebar in google code, it made it nice and easy to navigate.

    So my suggestion would be this;

    3692756240?profile=original

'page' div changed from 960px to 1100px. Top div for the breadcrumb. A sidebar within wordpress that is in the "secondary" div with percentage width and float left and then the "primary" div to percentage width and float right. Then a div clear none at the bottom. The menu would 'bold' the current document as well.

I personally think this would be an awesome improvement, please don't think I'm intruding and certainly don't want to step on anyones toes but just offering up some ideas :)

  • Hi Doc Editors,

I have just added a section to the editors information page describing how to import non-WordPress information into the WordPress Wiki and how to "fix' it once you have done so.

Also, a section on the simplest way to import WordPress to WordPress without problems.

  • Hi All, I have just copied Randys APM:Copter firmware 3.0 discussion page into a New Wiki APM:Copter page of its own.

It has been edited it to work properly and it is also installed in the top of the APM:Copter Reference Manual Table of Contents.

    http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/version-3-0-apmcopter-firmware-pre...

It also links directly back to his discussion page.

The Wiki page can be modified or appended directly to add pertinent information and when 3.0 is solid it's information can be disseminated to the other wiki pages as well.

  • Thank you Chris,

And I completely agree, the Qt GCS seems to be progressing very nicely and is definitely going to add some new capabilities and methods.

  • 3D Robotics

    Thanks, Gary! That's huge.

I'm sure Josh can marshal a team to update all the MP images. Might be worth waiting until the new Qt-based GCS is launched.

  • Finished "fixing" new wiki developer - actual developer pages now too.

So all 3 WP Wiki Sites + all Common pages + all Developer wiki developer pages (that are found in the Reference Manual Tables of Contents) have now had all links fixed and changed to non-Google wiki links and all images moved to the WP wiki.

Also added a bunch of new pages where the pages linked to pages that were only in the old Google wiki (and fixed them too.)

Probably time for interested editors to start going through what we have and seeing what needs to be added - improved - edited.

Mission Planner has (as of today) gotten a new main screen, so lots of opportunities for replacing Mission Planner screen shots - (what no volunteers?)

    Me either.

  • Developer

I have sent a message to google requesting an increase in the quota for the google wikis

  • Hi all, the Word Press APM:Plane wiki site is back up and I have finished fixing and updating the APM:Plane wiki, so now all 3 main wikis should at least function as intended.

Only the actual developer - developer pages haven't been "fixed" yet.
