  • I have always heard about the larger prps being on the bottom.  What is the advantage of having them on top?

  • I'm happy to report my cantankerous Spy 750 Y6 is now a wonderful machine to fly with the latest Auto Tune.

    It now has Xoar 15.5 props on top, 14x7 bottom. The handling and stability even in wind is very good. The Xoars aren't as efficient as TM, but I can get nearly any prop size/pitch to experiment with and not break the bank doing it.

  • As far as using the beta firmware 3.3rc1, there are still issues in autotune.  The Dev's have figured out what the issues are but the fix won't be implemented until 3.3rc2.  They had hoped the 3.3rc2 would've been released last Friday but it wasn't.  I guess they're still working out issues.

       Great advice , I will try individual  axis auto tune tomorrow.

     I assume I must disable pitch /roll lock first.

    something else that i notice is that with the  "B" configuration that all prop nut are in "auto undo" rotation mode , I think a possible fix is to swap props  and motor to pixhawk  connections top to bottom and then reverse all rotation directions ,all changes cancel out.

    .prop strikes definitely do loosen the plain nuts ( I am now using nylock nuts)

    You can also select individual axis for tuning now as well. For example you can just tune roll if you want, or you can tune roll and pitch, or roll and yaw. It's controlled by a parameter that can be set before running autotune. You can read about it here in the 3.3 Beta thread.

    Autotune does tune yaw in AC3.3 rc1.

  • Right, auto tune only tunes roll and pitch.  If yaw is weak, check that the motors are all turning the right way.  I had one arm inverted in my Y6, and that made yaw hard to control.  Other than that, stock yaw PID's work fine (actually, I even left my roll and pitch PID's alone, as they work just fine; never did the autotune).

               I tried auto tune on my y6 b , 5000 ma 4S battery 850kv motors 10x4.5 in props

    battery was finished before auto-tune finished ? 13 minuets,  (yaw just started)

    any one have a set of pid parameters  for me to start with?  yaw hold seems weak with standard settings

Does anyone still build these? What's the state of affiars for DIY and coaxial hexacopter builds?

I've been fascinated with Y6 designs for years and have been wanting to craft my own but never had the finances to do so. FInally came into some extra cashflow and want to put it towards a drone. I just became FAA certified and have been doing this commercially as a side hustle in tourism. I currenlty have experience with DJI products.The allure of creating my own has always stuck though, as a fun side project. 3DR Specs??

Does anyone have specs for 3DR Y6?  I'm looking for dimensions on all parts, but mostly for the main plates.  I can't find any spare parts, so I figured I'd manufacture my own.  I have a second Y6, but it has the old original top plate and I'd like to replace it with the one that supports the GoPro gimbal. Pixhawk reading 0V

Hi, guys.  I know the 3DR Y6 is not as popular as it used to be, but I still need some help.  I recently dusted off my Y6 and started using it again.  I even installed a new Hero4 for 4K video with a new lens (to get rid of the fisheye effect)...The issue I have (well, one of them!) is that regardless if I connect through the MavLink or the USB cable directly to the Pixhawk, the pixhawk is reading 0.0V from the battery.  Now, the interesting thing is that BATTERY_VOLTAGE2 is reading correctly,…
