  • I was able to get Iris up right out of the box for small hovers and then took it to a park over the weekend. I crashed I think because I ran out of battery but the failsafe didn't kick in.

I posted logs and stuff in the forum as I hoped 3DR would be monitoring them especially after the weekend. Also sent an email asking for someone to review the log as it is black magic to me.

Customer service is going to be important for Iris especially with us noobs !

  • I got mine and its working like a champ!  It did come with a bad battery but I contacted support and they sent me a new one after about a day. Terpinol you could make a video of you trying to start it showing all your setting and post it here you might get a faster response.

  • Boy, I'm having doubts about my IRIS... It seemed like decent quality hardware, but I've had it a week and still can't even start the rotors, let alone fly it. Admittedly, I'm a noob, but I've gone through the system numerous times and debugged it twice over the phone with 3DR and they've been unable to fix it. They were supposedly going to check with engineers and get back to me, but I'm still waiting. Pretty disappointing experience so far.

    Lol - yes, it's an experience.  (;

But as I said, try to get it at 5 metres (at most) and try to keep it there.  Pick a still day and be light on the throttle - no jerky movements and you'll pick it up quickly.  (:

Also - have you a flight sim?

  • David,

I am now laughing.  I didn't know what you meant by "bouncing" until my first outdoor flight. :)

I have been playing around with all these little quadcopters for months now and to be honest, even though the IRIS is much more stable, I have a heck of a time with trying anything new because of the cost of this thing.  I'm just going to be working on building up flight hours in Stabilize mode for some time.

    Ken! o.O

Outside outside outside!  We've seen too many people needing a trip to the doctor and stitches on here - so let's not add to it.

Try to learn in stabilise mode first - get it hovering in the air 5 metres without bouncing and then try the other modes.

  • Just got my IRIS today after the first production run.  I got so excited to get this vehicle put together.  The manual says, "Don't operate indoors or in an enclosed area."  Well, I turned on AltHold mode and ever so slowly lifted the throttle.  BAM!  It flew straight up to the ceiling, hit and even though I pushed the throttle down, it came down about 3 seconds later.  No harm no foul, except for the tips of two of the props.  Eh.. I guess I could have put it on stability mode and done that.. but I learned my lesson.  :)

  • Found it.  Look for the "operations manual" link.

  • This page has more detailed info.  I found a PDF manual once, but I can't seem to locate it now.

"OLD" IRS+ am I out of luck for parts?

Hello,I bought an Iris+ with the gimbal, Black Pearl FPV and a GoPro in 2015 and used it to take a video of my farm.--After the initial activity in 2015 (my first experience with a drone), I was busy with other things, so the drone sat on a shelf (in it's case). In 2017 I brought out the IRIS+ again, and discovered online that 3DR was out of business-- and I could no longer get parts--so I thought I was just totally out of luck with this drone and put it back in the box.2022:  I got out the…

I put in my battery, waited for the IRIS+ to give the green light.i took off, flew around the perimeter of the lake some, and then headed offshore ( no water yet, just the streams ) i get about half way over the lake and…

Iris + won't arm

I have an Iris + using a Spektrum satellite and DX9 radio. I can only get the Iris to arm and motors run when the Iris is connected to my computer via USB (plus with LIPO plugged in of course). If I go through this procedure without the USB cable attached, The Iris will initialize, LED will blink green, safely button pushed, stick right down on radio, LED changes to yellow and alarm goes off. It will also turn from blinking green to yellow without attempting to arm if I just leave if for a short…

Iris+ Tarot gimbal camera compatibility

Took Iris out for some flights yesterday and still flies great.  But the USB port on my GoPro 4 Silver seems to have failed for charging and data transfer... but strangely still worked for Iris+ FPV.  So the battery is dying and who knows how long the FPV will function even if I get an external battery charger.Question: are there any other cams that are compatible with the Iris/Tarot setup?  I am reluctant to get another GoPro 3 or 4 since they seem to have fragile USB ports... and I don't…
