3DR w/ APM 2.5 MavLink Connection Issues

I have everything plugged in correctly and I am able to load the 3DR radio settings for both remote and local in the configuration tab of mission planner. When I try to connect via MavLink using the 3DR it fails to load parameters from the APM. I am not plugged in over USB, the only connection between the APM and my PC is through the 3DR.

More specifically these are the messages i'm seeing:

Connecting Mavlink popup gets stuck on "Getting Params... (sysid1 compid1)" eventually resulting in a "Connect Failed". The message says that "1231 Packets were received, but no parameter packets where received" and also it says "Timeout on read - getParamList"

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

  • I had the same issue solved by pressing ctrl+t to connect.

  • I had exactly the same issue.

I resolved it changing the USB 3DR radio to COM3:

As my APM USB connection used to use the COM3: the 3DR starts using COM4:

I went to Windows Control Panel and opened the device manager. In Ports properties, I changed the the port setting to COM3:

I also realized that sometimes I turn on the 3DR radio and the rx led in the USB port does not flash.

If it happens is because the APM is not transmitting the heart bits. In this case, press the reset button in the APM until the rx led in the 3DR radio attached to USB port start flashing.

It resolved the issue for me.

  • forgot:

red leds on both radios are flashing twica a second, grenns always on. It seems that the led of radio connected with computer is more dim than the other one.
