Airspeed questions

We operate a fixed wing and a quad and have noticed some odd issues with airspeed.

On the X8 fixed wing, the airspeed sensor appears to be showing airspeed on the ground as it jumps around a bit, and used to work well in flight. However recently we have noticed that as soon as the aircraft is launched the airspeed drops to 0 and stays there throughout the flight. The plane behaves normally when in RTL mode and doesn't dive for airspeed even though it is reading 0. Is this an issue with the xbee losing telemetry sensor data or something to do with the hardware setup in the planner where is asks whether the sensor is enabled and then to use airspeed or just simply a failing airspeed sensor?

What is the hardware airspeed all about, enable it and then use it? Why would you want it enabled but not use it?

I have attached a log that shows the airspeed drop away after launch and then momentarily show up again after landing.

On the quad, I just updated the software to 2.8 and when setting everything up again, I noticed in the planner advanced section that there is a max wind option (with reference to failing airspeed sensors). Should that be there as quads don't use airspeed sensors?

  • While I don't have much of an explanation to your problem, I would like you to ask what's the minimum airspeed of X8 ? - to be safe from stall.
