APM 2.6 AltHold - quad shoots up then comes back down

2. What does the "FMT"Hi All,

After solving some small things I tried to do the Auto Tune procedure whose prerequisite is getting the quad to fly well in AltHold.  Well, it sis not!  As soon as I flipped into AltHold the machine shot up about 20 feet, then started coming back down, then up, etc.

I got home and took the unit's case off to find absolutely NO foam, so I am figuring that was the problem.  Now I need to try again, probably this weekend coming up.

In the meantime, I am completely baffled by how to analyze the logs!  I have tried and have no idea how to analyze a log.  Occasionally I can get a line to graph, but cannot seem to figure out the rhyme or reason as to how.

Starting woth the basics:

1.  Is each line in the log a measurement for a different set of params?

2.  What does the "FMT" do? Does it somehow control the format?

3.  What does clicking on a cell do for you?  What does right-clicking on a cell do for you?

4.. What do the params on the right do, and what does it mean when you click and check some items?

5 .What does "Graph on the Left Side" do vs "Graph on the right side"?

6. After stumbling and bumbling around trying to graph things I also ended up creating these additional files. Does anyone know what they are?

7.  What is the *.bin file vs the *.log file that are created?  Binary and Log files?

If someone could open the attached log(s) and simply graph something and explain how they did it, I would really, really appreciate it!@@

Thanks,

Bill

  • Well All, I figured this out!

My APM 2.6 did not have the foam inside, the kind used to protect the barometer from both sunlight AND stray propwash that can sneak into the enclosure.  After installing the foam, which took care of of the sunlight and the turbulence, it was perfect thereafter.

  • here is a start on logs that may help with the basics.
