Bixler Motor mount

I just got my Bixler in the mail from HK.

I received the model that comes with a 2620-1900kv Brushless Outrunner , and I bought a 1300mah lipo to go with it for now.  ....... I am going to set it up with an APM,  telemetry, and a GoPro camera inside the fuse pointing down (Through some kind of opening)

Now  the first thing I want to do is reach a point where I can fly it comfortably.  I'm not the best pilot, and I haven't flown a plane in a couple years. After that Im going to use it for Mapping runs in a lawn mower pattern.

Now before I mate both halves of the fuse together I was thinking of putting in a this motor mount that I found, and can get locally.

3690961642?profile=originalWhat I like about this mount is the ability to move the outside plate up and down to accommodate different size props. Obviously there going to protrude farther out then oem, but the even the oem seems to be pushed out as far as it can go and with a long prop shaft so it wouldn't be a huge difference.

On hand I have quite a few of the Turnigy 2217 1050kv motors, and I can get different props locally as well. I also have a 30amp Blue series/Mystery ESC's and the HK SS ESC on hand.

Now keep in mind the first thing on my mind at the moment is an easy learning curve. So what Im afraid of is making the plane harder to fly in the short term. keeping that in mind my options are:

Leaving it OEM....... the mount and the motor/prop it came with

Adding the New mount......and leaving the rest oem

Adding the new mount......and one my 2217 motors and/or a new prop

Of course I'm also keeping my mind on the later goal of mapping, and I can order a different parts while I'm re-learning.................. So any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Hi,

I also am a new flyer, I would recommend leaving it as it is, as it will fly better, you are not going to get that much advantage from a larger prop, with a lot of potential hassles relearning how to fly (as someone who is learning to fly - that is hard enough).

One other thing to think of BEFORE you seal your halves together, is work out how you are going to mount your APM, and is there wires to run, mounting points to insert ., etc before you seal the two halves, and its too hard to put in mount points.

I would put the default prop that came with the plane on - as theoretically you should get a good level of control from that.

Good luck with your maiden flight.
