Can't Connect APM to laptop

I bought an APM 2.6 earlier this month and have not been able to connect it to my computer to download the firmware. I downloaded the latest version of Mission Planner, as well as the USB Drivers to connect it to my laptop. When I go to add the new COM port, the port name has the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it. When I attempt to download the firmware, MP gives me an error message saying I did not choose a valid serial port. I have tried on multiple laptops, running Windows 7, 8, and 10, and still the same result.

When I bought the APM from Amazon, it did not come with a USB cable, so I am using a charger cable from my Bluetooth headphones. Is there a specific cable that will be able to connect to the laptop that I need to get or is there something else that I did wrong along the way?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • UPDATE:

I went out and bought a micro USB cable from Arduino, and it works!! I guess there is something extra in the cable that isn't included in all micro USB cables.
