I would like to control the quad from a computer. Now I do have a XBee, so I'm curious about following factors.
1. speed
e.g. say we want to quickly roll the quad, through XBee would it behave in similar speed compared to a normal radio. propagation delay, serial communication bottleneck etc....
2. resolution
e.g. in radio we have 800 for throttle, could we issue control signal through XBee in the same resolution?
Is there an existing implementation for this?

This is a good starting point. Then follow up with some of the guys like Ellison Chan and Farooq Niaz to find out their current recommendations. You can disable the retransmissions in the Xbee, or use different radios. But start by reading over the entire discussion, and you'll find similar discussions also of use...
