GPS has lock, APM 2.0 "C" led goes out unless USB connected?

I'm hoping to try some loitering or position hold but get no GPS lock indicator on the "C" LED on the APM 2.0 when not plugged into the USB on my laptop.

If I connect the USB cable, even without MP open the GPS will lock, the "C" led will turn solid blue and all seems correct. When I unplug the USB both blue LED's stay lit for about 23 seconds and then the "C" LED goes out, no blinking though the GPS blue LED stays lit and I am in a mode (loiter) that requires GPS.

I tried arming the APM in position hold mode with the USB connected, still goes out 30 seconds from being unplugged from the USB. Tried resetting, reloading the firmware, caching a map, all to no avail.

What am I missing here?

I have the same issue like you and many others. My post is here,

I still have no reliable solution.

Thanks for the reply Micheal, I did read through your thread but felt the symptom seemed different as I get good data from the GPS in mission planner and my "3Dfix" LED stays lit consistently.

I intend to start isolating the RF and ground loop potentials at the APM. I learned quite a bit on this particular topic being a sound guy and back when we first started running brushless motors while we still had FM remote control.

I will post if I get any better results but I think the Ublox GPS and on board GPS delete will likely be the ultimate solution :-(
