Help with picking components for a DIY drone

Good morning,

For a hobby I want to build a small (as small as I can, but still big enough to add on sensors and micro controllers) drone. I realize this is a ' having your cake and eating it too' type of situation because I want a small drone that can lift a lot (for its size). I travel a lot for work so it would be something I could easily pack with me is the idea.

I guess I'm kind of wondering where I would start with the design process. I plan on putting a small camera, maybe one or two ultrasonic rangefinders and maybe a raspberry pi or a slightly smaller flight controller. Flight time doesn't have to be any longer than 10 min. Do I start by picking out frame that matches a certain size prop? or do I pick motors that are capable of what I'm looking for then decide on the prop and frame? Or is the size of the battery the first thing I need to think about?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!

  • First thing is power plant motors ESC & prop combo this is dependent on power you using battery size, flight time ext. Flifgt controllers sensors, Then the frame all this stuff must fit in!
