Linux: Install APM Mission Planner from source?

First post, trying to get started with APM Mission Planner. The installer for Linux is .deb and I'm running OpenSUSE and wonder can I install from source code?Even though I assume the code is open source is it on github or can I pull it from another source?

  • Thanks for all your help. Been struggling to satisfy requirements and starting out it's difficult to keep track of all the various solutions to each problem in the drone space. Multiple ground controllers, multiple software stacks for flight controllers etc. etc.

On that front are the two mission planners, APM Planner and Mission Planner maintained by two different teams? Seems strange to not have a cross platform but then being new I have no clue of even a fraction of the details.
    • Yup 2 different groups. Mission planner is Michael Osborne's baby along with https://github.com/ArduPilot/MissionPlanner/graphs/contributors and APM Planner is https://github.com/ArduPilot/apm_planner/graphs/contributors. Lorenz and a bunch of others are the peeps behind PX4 and their backend QGroundControl.

      ArduPilot/MissionPlanner
Mission Planner Ground Control Station (c# .net). Contribute to ArduPilot/MissionPlanner development by creating an account on GitHub.
      • Ah the joy of OpenSource ;-) emacs vs vi

Been looking at drones from the viewpoint of contributing, but just getting to know the lie of the land is a thing. Been looking at the DroneCode stuff as well. Once I get all the bits connected up and flying I guess I'll have a better idea of what is what.

  • Developer

    You can get support http://discuss.ardupilot.org/c/ground-control-software/apm-planner-2-0

and instructions on how to build from code here https://github.com/ArduPilot/apm_planner

  • I'm guessing you mean APM Planner 2.0 as "Mission Planner" is a Windows program. They are 2 very different programs that do much of the same things. I even built it on my old Raspberry PI a couple of years ago.

    Yes the source is available
