I just built my first custom quad. I've been trouble-shooting it for quite some time now, and I just can't figure out what's wrong. I posted an in-depth explanation on rcgroups here:

Basically, the quad will hover fine, but then go dynamically unstable and then flip. I've attached a plot of the dataflash log that shows this. Any ideas would be appreciated. Perhaps I should enable more logging and crash it a few more times to probe the data a bit more.

Have you done any tuning? The first thing I would do is try autotune. My hex did the same thing, it seemed to over shoot the correction. Try auto tune and see if is fixes anything.
Tim, thank you for your input.
I just now calibrated the ESC. (I thought that I had done this already, but I misread the documentation and apparently did not do it correctly.) Having calibrated the ESC, it flew much better. I kept it in the air for about 10 minutes. It still over-shoots the correction a bit, but I will investigate autotune and see if I can get rid of that.
It looks during my last crash, I bent one of the motor drive-shafts by ~1-3 degrees. The quad still flew, but is this a big issue? Should I buy a new motor?
Again, I appreciate the input as a newbie
