Power for arducopter

I'm planning to order one of the arducopter kits:

3DR ArduCopter Quad-C Frame + Motors + Full Flight Electronics Kit

http://store.diydrones.com/3DR_ArduCopter_Quad_C_Full_flight_electronics_kit_p/kt-ac3dr-03.htm

but as far as I can tell, I would need to supply my own battery. What’s a reasonable route? XTR connector? Deans connector? What size and spec lipo battery physically fit on these and work well?

I agree with Alexsey. Plus I would go with a 30C or better on the battery. The C is the rate of Amps at a steadying voltage. A higher C gives good load at a steady voltage.

I would go with 5000mAh 3S1P. Dean connectors are pretty much what 3DRobotics uses. Don't forget you will need RC Transmitter and Receiver. Plus you will need some tools, solder gun, battery charger. I also recommend a small battery buzzer to help you from destroying your batteries. You can't run a LiPo battery down all the way, it will destroy it.
