RC Timer Gimbal Weirdness

Hi

Can anyone help or make suggestions. I have set up the PIDS in GUI and the gimbal is working perfectly on both axis without jitter or vibration.

I have tested it with all motors running on my hex whilst indoors and again everything is fine.

When I take off - all hell breaks loose and the gimbal twists and turns and wraps itself up.

Any ideas guys?

Getting desperate - this thing is getting close to being trashed.

Thanks

Tom

  • I too was having wierd issues where it would be working fine in the man-lab with USB connected, but as soon as I took it out for flight, it reacted very differently.

By chance, I discovered that it reacts completely different when connected to USB!

With only my 4S feed, as soon as I disconnect USB, it will perform very differently.

I ended up installing a cheap Ebay DC-DC which gives me a constant 2S supply. After that, performance has been more consistent. Not sure my PIDs are correct yet, but it works OK.

I get the feeling you have to fly it, look at the video, tune some PIDs, fly it again, inspect video, and so on.

Setting it up in the lab with USB connected does not give a good representation of what the PIDs should be.

Also, make SURE you have a your GoPro REALLY in the center of gravity. Otherwise the motors won't be able to pull the weight. I ended up maxing the adjustent screws on the gimbal to the end position, and also putting my Gopro quite far back in the gimbal, and not at what looks like center. This did wonders and it rarely looses control now. Before that, it would drop the camera when I did anything but soft flying.
