Sonar Success!

I have had many sonar probs over the various releases and now I have gotten it working beautifully. I have the MB1200 (XL-EZ0) sensor, currently on 2.0.37 on stock AC frame. Initially I had the sonar hung with spacers 2" under the main body under one ESC. I just used 3 unshielded hookup wires. The results were not pretty-  (red=sonar   green=throttle)

Then I put the plastic ring from the sonar mount kit on .5” spacers so it was even with the sensor face. Data got a lot better-

Then I installed shielded wire (shield + 2 wire) and mounted it out like this- (Great use for old leg!)

And the data became –

This flew perfectly – easy to see as it crossed from cement to lawn and to curved cement without missing a beat. Height tracked the ground and the motors stayed very smooth.

We are getting closer everyday.  I still wonder – is it possible to hack the software to enable alt hold while in simple mode or are those very separate functions that can’t run simultaneously?

That looks great. We should recommend the shielded cable in the Wiki.

Nice. So glad to see people having success with this now (sonar).

I did not have anything handy that would serve as a decent arm so i simply mounted mine in the front directly under one arm with two long spacers as shown. I also taped the wire up so it is away from the esc (i have no shiending but the plan is to pick up some).

This works great, no noise and good alt-hold performance.

I am sure the code can be hacked to enable alt-hold in other modes. I do like the idea and think it may be worth looking into. As the lead of my company in coding, it has been very tempting to learn a bit more about AC2. Maybe some day.
