Looking into getting a Sony NEX5 camera. I would like to have control over the zoom feature. Has anyone played around with a controller that can do this over a link? Maybe even have a 3 axis controller with zoom capabilities.

The zoom on an NEX5 is mechanical, i.e. you turn it with your hand. So you would need an external electronic zoom ring to affect zoom. I haven't seen a commercial product to solve this for the small mirrorless SLRs like the NEX, only as a remote follow focus for professional cameras (e.g. http://store.redrockmicro.com/microremote)
