waterproof brushless motor

i will be expecting my quadrocopter to be wet (completely soaked in water)  so should i use a brushed or a brushless motor?

there's an australian company that custom built a quadrocopter to go underwater and i asked them what motor they used and they said they used the Turnigy 924kv Brushless Motors... i thought that brushless motor would be spoiled if underwater?.... pls help

  • Did you get anywhere with this ? I would think a brush-less would be ok in fresh water , I'm not sure an untreated motor of any sort would be OK in salt water for very long.. an Outrunner and good squirt with WD40 before storage and I would expect it to be OK. I will be trying ti soon so can tell you with more authority but these are my suspicions.  With my project I don't intend it to fly so wont have problems with motor grunt...

  • My friend is doing a senior design project for Seabotix (remotely-piloted underwater rovers), and they are using an unsealed electric brushless motor to control one of the arm joints. The company even sells "special" thrusters that are designed to be used underwater, and they are nothing more than caged brushless motors.

But hey, a salad bowl works too?
  • That video with the underwater-quad was a fake, you know that? they just had the cam in an enclosure hanging under the quad with a bit of slack between it..

    Otherwise, i'm sorry, i can't help you...
