EDIT:

I removed all my previous post in the discussion, simply because it is all too basic and can be searched with a little more effort. I'll be updating as soon as all the parts for my drone arrive.

My complete list of parts.

So my groundstation is a computer (some of you will disagree on this) that will be able to control the plane through a joystick via long range telemetry(as shown by Trent and further suggestions of improvement by Tridge), the remote control will just be for short range. Of course on long range, waypoints will be placed. I will also be placing a release mechanism on the bottom of my plane so that it can carry a lightweight load. I'm also considering the parachute release of Troy Fardell, Though I'm still gonna ask him questions on the RCG forum. This drone will probably be heavy so some measures will be done to manage weight. Take-off would be catapult style.

I have viewed that page 2 days ago but just scanned through the whole discussion since its 305 pages. But i'll just read it again in case I missed something.

Thanks.

Hi

I am planning on building a quadcopter with some of the componants you are using. I'd like to know how do you change the video source of your video emitter during flight? With the video switcher i guess, but how do you operate it? If you could help me on that, i have been looking around for quite some time...

Vincent

check here. There's a manual attached, it is not that comprehensive though. Basically it is controlled by a three-position stick (RC transmitter) but I'll be using the APM2.5 and telemetry to switch cameras. I have not experimented with it yet since I'm still finishing the coating and modifications to the X8 airframe.

:D

Hi,

Thank you for such a quick answer! Will it be possible to get pictures or diagram of your wiring work after you finish it? There is actually some knowledge that i didn't get...I'm building a quadcopter with APM 2.5 and 2 cameras as well, but i haven't finish the frame yet either...

Thx

Ok. But i'll be posting it next week since I am being sent to a symposium by my university, so all the electronic stuff for the drone will be done next week.

You might want to drop by the ArduCopter group. They can help you with your quadcopter build.

Great! That's really kind of you! Thank you for the advise, i've been around this forum for two month, there's a huge amount of usefull information there! Just another question, are you planning on powering the "video part" of your project via a second smaller battery? That's what i'm planning on doing. I've look at the possibilities of this setup, in order to recharge a second 1S battery with solar pannels, thanks to this king of hardware:

Would it be possible, from your opinion? i'm really new to electronics...but highly motivated!
