As we are rapidly approaching the official release of the Albatross line of aircraft, we thought there would be no better way of saying thank you than by giving away a free airframe to someone in the community. As such we have decided a design contest is in order for the best paint scheme, with the winning designer receiving a free airframe incorporating his/her design.
We'll do our best to get the livery as an added color scheme option but thought this would be a good way to engage the community as we get ready for the release and getting this aircraft into your hands.
The contest is open as of this posting and will finish on November 10th. The designs must be possible from a production and manufacturing perspective (painting/vinyl). There must be an emphasis on orientation and visibility (i.e., contrasting colors), meanwhile maintaining an appealing and good looking aircraft. In that, we are excited and can't wait to see what you all come up with and to get the airframes out to you.
** We are looking for a color scheme that is highly visible, and good with orientation. Conventional aircraft paintjobs are preferred, but we will consider everything. We will accept ANY format. We encourage every design, no matter your artistic ability! If you need to print out the templates, color with crayon, and email us a picture, we don't mind, after all it is the design that counts! So send us your Illustrator, PNG, BMP, JPEG, MS Paint, or even hand drawn design, we will gladly take it into consideration! Ideas can either be emailed to us via the email provided below, they can be uploaded to this blog, or any other contest related posting we have made on other websites.**
Let the designs begin, we look forward to seeing them!

Any more info available regarding the Catapult, Parachute system, Servo covers and flight performance from the kickstarted participants? I'm looking to place an order for two airframes and a couple spare fuselages, but would love to hear some reviews.
**Daemon seems to be doing well with his, but are any others happy/content with this platform?
All our SP and Max models come with the standard black carrying case in most of the photos.
The white case you are referring to is the rugged one and we don't expect many of them to be sold but we took the time to get something that you can throw in the river and still not have a problem with when you take the airframe out (although I wouldn't recommend it). It's so expensive given the size and quality but that said, most will be extremely happy with the included case (we've shipped the standard ones all over without a problem).
Also guys, I have to say: $1500 is pretty unrealistic for the carrying case. For that price, I'd just buy two airframes rather than try and protect the one. Why so expensive?
We wanted to firstly say thank you. Thank you for your patience, your understanding and your support. It is your efforts and feedback that drove this project to what it became and we are forever appreciative of that.
We told you Monday we would start taking orders and Monday it is so we wanted to write here first. This community has given us a great deal of ideas, offered us a strong base of supporters with many providing feedback and companies alike. As such, we wanted to offer and showcase this to not just our community but people outside of our community that may not know the possibilities or existence of affordable tools like this. Our aim has always been to offer products, may it be airframes, complete ready to fly solutions, ground stations, etc at prices that can fit any budget but at the same time to not compromise quality. We wanted to vastly surpass the limits and hindrances that come with foam based aircraft and really create something priced right and unique. We have spent the last couple of weeks finalizing what has become our initial online intention – to begin offering our products via a Kickstarter campaign. Our website is now up as well but our aim is to show people that may be interested that are not of the same DIY nature that this forum is built upon what these aircraft can do and that they are within reach. All that said, the last people we want to turn our backs on are the very ones that supported us all along the way so we wanted to not only tell you all here first but also enable a way to make sure delivery preference starts with you. With any item you order, send us a message via Kickstarter or email and we will make sure yours are shipped out first. We have already made an order in anticipation of tomorrow so production has already started but as you know price, quality and quantity is a difficult task to manage. We know reasonable prices are achievable and maintainable in quantity without sacrificing quality. At the same time, prices need to start low in order to achieve the quantity needed so we have moved ahead as planned with the low prices we promised all along but to remain at these low prices the Kickstarter needs to meet its goals. Regardless though, if it does not, the airframes will still be produced but will have to suffer a price increase. We wanted to come to you with transparency in mind and with our products, tried test, pushed past their limits and then repeatedly done again and again. That’s what we have done and we look forward to seeing what you do with your Albatross.
Feel free to e-mail us with any questions at info@AppliedAeronautics.com (emails are now 100% operational and we’ll do our best to get anything answered for you).
