Sparkfun has just released an "9DoF" Razor IMU board ($125) with an Atmega328, three flat gyros, a three-axis accelerometer and a three-axis magnetometer (no GPS input). This is basically similar to the ArduIMU+, but designed for indoor use or other places where GPS is not available or desirable. Because the Atmega runs at 16 Mhz, it's Arduino compatible.
We've been working with them on this board, and will be converting the ArduIMU+ code to work with it soon; it will be available on the Sparkfun site and here. Stay tuned!

I am working with graphics in VC++ (Visual studio2008). I also want to make it(9DOF) work in windows platform. The main problem is to read the COM port efficiently.
If anybody have the COM port reading code, please post it.
The topic of 6 or 9 DOF keeps popping up and rolling around in my head... How about "absolute 6 DOF" for 6 DOF + 3-axis magnetometer and "relative 6 DOF" for the vanilla 6 DOF? I know, acceleration is usually absolute, at least in one axis.
He solved the vibration issue by encapsulating his IMU in gel. So, I suppose there is a solution to the vibration issue, but it would be nice if the IMU itself was vibration resistant, if not vibration proof.
That's cool. The magnetometers will appeal to heli and quad pilots. However...
What gyros does the board use? No doubt the board will be fine for fixed wing aircraft, but in heli and quad applications, my concern would be interference from vibration. Has anyone done vibration testing yet on the board?
I have been looking around for gyros that are suitable for helis and quads. So far, I have not found any flat-mounting gyros that will stand up to heavy vibration. Oversampling and filtering will only work if the gyros are not shaken into saturation.
So far, Analog Devices gyros seem to have the greatest resistance to vibration of all the ones that I've seen, but two of them have to be mounted vertically.
Anyway, if the board has already passed vibration testing, that would be great news.
Angus, you need to read up more about string theory (well M-theory specifically), the extra 3 dimensions this board supports are time (yes it can time travel) and two more that are not normally perceivable as they are curled up very small. Really only two are new discoveries and not so important, what is interesting is the time degree of freedom, being able to jump back in time to prevent crashes is the key feature.
Seriously though, its a great price for a decent IMU. I was hoping to see a Razor 9DoF, nice way to start the year.

A follow up comment. I just noticed that Vissilis is using a CHR-6D IMU and DCM in a quad-rotor
