I've never seen retracting skids on an N-copter before.
The Flying Fern folks' octa has that to get the skids out of the way of their DSLR copter holding a C300 :-O

Wow...that's pretty high end stuff. I looked at some guy's build notes and he used a $500 euro Kopterworx Hercules board for the ESC's :-O
