12v Car Battery to run the same as a 11.1v lipo

I want to tether my AR Parrot Drone to run for extended periods, but almost exclusivly in a hover.

I do not know much about voltages, ampers, ect.

What all would I need to make this work?

--The AR Parrot uses a liPo 11.1v 1000mAh 1c continuous discharge

  • A 6 cell (12 volt nominal) lead-acid battery has about the same open-circuit voltage as a fully charged 3 cell (11.1 volt nominal) LiPo, -- that is 12.60 V -- so it's a great substitute in terms of voltage. If you remove the original lipo of the Parrot to save weight and you are then able to lift a suitably thick electrical tether without problems, you can hover with power from the ground. Heck, you could do away with the car battery altogether and use grid power with a battery charger, or a suitably beefy computer (ATX) power supply! Use the yellow wire for +12 volts; black is ground. Find an abandoned but working PSU, don't hook it up to your working computer, just in case.

    11.1V 1000MaH at 1C discharge = 11.1 Watt
