Is it possible to increase the flight time to between 30 - 60 minutes with a 600gm useful payload?
Is it recommended to wire up some battery packs in parallel using a Y cable to increase the battery capacity?

you should use high efficiency motors, upgrade to 5V switch regulator (linear regulators are not good in effiency)
build a very light frame, use high efficiency propellers
and use high power batteries (yes you can use them in parallel)
I've been able to hit 36 minutes hover time with a hexa carrying 2 5000 mAh 4s packs in parallel (so yes, Y cables are the way to go). Indoors, in zero wind.
Flight time (as opposed to hover time) will be shorter, depending on your flight style and the environmental conditions at the time of flight. But sure, anything is possible. Generally the bigger your rig is, the more efficient it gets and the more lipos it can carry... perhaps like this dodeca-copter with 14 kgs of thrust and a flight time of 35 minutes. More props, bigger props, more efficiency.
