3DR quad frame rolls to left. Can't take off.

I had a light crash or hard landing the other day. 3DR frame is great at surviving hard landings. :)

Im using 2.0.49.

After checking everything was ok I tried to fly again and as always I hold it in my hand first to check stable mode I noticed it wanting to pull to the left when I increased throttle. Like it was confused as to what was level. So I did a re-level in the setup over xbee, making sure it was actually level and thought that would solve the problem. It didn't. So then I did a full reset, except uploading firmware but Im still having the same problem . I went in to CLI and calibrated ESCs.

I'm flying X mode and have confirmed it is set that way. The CLI reports X and the MP says FRAME = 1. That never changes even if I change to + mode so not sure if that is ok.

When I do motor test and push stick to right then both right motors spin up. Push forward and both back spin up etc. I use to fly + mode so that test would just turn on each arm separately but I'm guessing in X mode it's 2 at a time.

The IMU is stable and level and it's COG is ok also.

So what else can I check to solve this. It's impossible to take off. It will just flip to the left.

  • Well I finally figured out what it was. The back left prop was not producing the same amount of thrust as the other three. Replaced it but then had two props break in flight. I think one motor was damaged also. I'm going to look for some CF props. These plastic ones can't be relied on. I've had it happen with the larger motors and 12" props as well. I wasn't even doing anything hard with it. Just getting out of hovering around to test the new prop and then started moving it a little harder. Both props on the left side lost one prop half leaving the rest still on the motor.

The 3DR frame is very durable!

  • When I calibrate the radio in the setup tab, I get 900 for ch8. I'm not using ch8 and it's not connected from rx to apm but should it register an 900?

  • I checked the status page of APM Planner and when I rev up the motors (not enough to lift off) I see the ch1out-ch4out giving more or less the same rpm within 20. Is that ok or should it be closer? ch1out seems to always be the high one by about 10-20 but sometimes like on lower throttle I see exactly the same across all. 1300 for example. The quad shows up as level in planner and is physically level but wants to fly up to the left.

Shouldn't the auto stabilization compensate for a less than equal prop. I can see it not knowing if your ESCs are out of calibration but it seems to confused on what is really level. When I move the quad around at medium throttle I can see that stabilization is on. If I push the right stick to the left it will easily flip but if I push it full the right to try and walk it, it never will get to the point to left the left two legs off of the ground but doing stick left will easily flip it to the left.

  • Maybe you can see something in my parameters that would cause the tilt to left? I just did the full reinstall today so it should be the default values.

When I hold it and give throttle it just seems like it thinks level is like 20 degrees tilt to left. :-/
