3DR radio no light with Nexus 7 2012

I am not getting any light on the 3dr radio.

I know the light works as it is fine when plugged into a pc.

I purchased a 2012 Nexus 7 for ground station use a few weeks ago. I immediately plugged the radio to the tablet, and am pretty sure I got a light. 

Now two weeks later I am trying to move from MP on the PC to Droid Planner. No light this time.

There have been 2 tablet OS updates since then and it is now on 4.4.2

I have installed USB host Diagnostics, but I don't know what to look for.

I don't have any other micro usb device to test the tablet power output on. Short of getting a new cable, what is my next step in problem solving??

    Fixed. The BLUE end goes into the tablet, not the black.
