remote controlled helicopter cameraship

I'm designing a remote controlled helicopter cameraship for commercial work and would like to know if it's possible to extend the range of the camera's remote controls for record/pause, iris and zoom. These are usually infra-red line-of-sight. I wonder if it might be possible to translate this signal to microwave (or other?) and back again. I'm not an engineer/electrician so be gentle with me. Cheers, Tim.

Yes, although it depends on which camera you're using. We use the Prism IR controller, which allows you to use your RC controller to drive the camera's IR port. On some cameras it can do zoom, etc, as well as shutter controls. It's designed for still cameras, so I don't know if it's compatible with video cameras (but we've used it successfully with digicams in video mode)
