Electric powered RC plane / UAV

For my Jr/Sr design project in college, my design team has decided to build a small RC plane / UAV. We are currently doing research for the project which will be a twin engine, channel wing design. My question is, are there any relatively cheap ways using electric power (less than 800$ for motors and batteries alone) to make this model stay aloft for at least 2 hours.

  • Long wings, Light construction with Blue Core Foam and Carbon Fiber spars, multiple Li-Po Batteries, one for the receiver, one for the ESC, and one for your AP system. Then you can program your motor to shut off after you get to your altitude of choice and glide on the thermals. You may even wire your batteries in series to get more longevity out of them......

For two hours, the best solution is gas-powered engines. Can you explain why you want to do this with electrics? The batteries necessary for that kind of duration will be incredibly heavy. Gas has a much higher energy density.
