A new platform for thermal sensing

Hello all,
I was wondering what you all thought of this:

as a platform for a long range UAV.

The idea is to implement thermal sensing, and using that to its advantage to use less energy (I KNOW thermal sensing will be difficult, if I can get it to work at all).
Does this look like a good frame?
How do electric gliders hold up to flight without any thermals, and complete powered flight (may be necessary).

Also, IMU's that are sensitive to vibration (ST's line of gyros) are shot down for helicopters, but how would these ST gyros hold up to flight like on a glider?

I was out at my local AMA club field 2 days ago and the subject of HobbyCity products came up with various RC pilots voicing their likes and dislikes. One of the active glider pilots said this DG-1000 has horrible flying characteristics.
